About

Our Mission

Annapurna Mandir is a registered charity named Durham Hindu Heritage & Cultural Centre. It had started operations in August 2016 in its current location in Pickering, Ontario. After four years of very successful operations, we continue to serve the community.

Annapurna Mandir has dedicated itself to serving the Hindu Community’s spiritual, cultural, social, and educational needs in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, surrounding Durham Region, Markham and Scarborough, and the Eastern part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Our mission is to advance and teach the religious tenets, doctrines, observances, teaching, and learning of Hindu Philosophy, music, arts, devotional songs, and cultural aspects associated with the Hindu (Sanatan Dharma) faith. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in our events.

Our long-term goal is to become one of the leading Hindu learning and teaching institutions in the GTA and surrounding areas.

Our Devotees

Our core devotees and the audience are everyone interested in learning and practicing Hinduism and Hindu culture in various forms, regardless of their national origins. Generally, our devotees come from many countries and have migrated and settled in the GTA and have origins in India, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, Guyana, Trinidad, Sri Lanka, and many other countries. Their needs are to maintain their Hindu culture and religion, but they also wish to integrate into Canadian society at the same time. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in our events.

Our Spiritual Leader, Pandit Damodar Sharma, can deliver religious and Hinduism related services in Sanskrit, Hindi, and English and attract an audience from many different backgrounds, especially young people and English-speaking audiences do not speak Hindi.
